Peter Stetina “retires” to Gravel

As transfer season comes to an end, American pro Peter Stetina is stepping away from the pro circuit and will be taking his talents to the thriving gravel scene for 2020.

A resident of Santa Rosa, California, Peter was born in Boulder, Colorado getting accustomed to dirt while working his way up to becoming a two time US U-23 Time Trial Champion.

Having spent the last four seasons on Trek – Segafredo, Peter spent his career on American based teams including BMC and Garmin.

A veteran of eight grand tours including four Giros, Peter also has experience in one day classics competing in both Il Lombardia and Liege – Bastogne – Liege six times.

While the road racing scene has been on the decline in the US, gravel has been taking a reverse trajectory as last season Peter took part with other pros in such events as Dirty Kanza and Belgian Waffle Ride (which Peter won).

With the Tour of California postponed (maybe permanently) for 2020, gravel has a great opportunity to continue its rise in popularity.

Peter is looking to grow the sport himself as his Sierra Prospect Ride including mixed surface and gravel looks to go full bore next year.

While Peter Stetina will be missed on the pro circuit, he will be an excellent ambassador for this growing sport!

..and hopefully a lot of it in California!
