This is a bit of a departure from our monthly Send It rides as this is more open ended and DIY, but there is some structure to it.
Quite simply this a picnic that you get to by bike. You don’t need a cargo bike, just cargo.
Pretty much anything you bring is cargo, even yourself so meeting the bare minimum should be simple, but picnic goods, chairs, drinks, games and even kids are good options too.
We will be meeting in Griffith Park on Sunday, March 9th at 2pm in the portion that’s southeast of Riverside Dr & Los Feliz Blvd that’s accessible off the LA River Path taking the Sunnynook Bridge.
This portion of the park has shade, restrooms, kids playground and even a pizza spot you can order online.
How you get there is your option, but we will have a family meetup about four miles down the path at Rio de Los Angeles State Park on the other side of the river (1900 N San Fernando Rd.) at 1pm.
Whether going to and from and the park, there are a number of great options along the path to stop into like Spoke Bicycle Cafe, La Columbe Coffee, Frogtown Brewery, Salazar and Lewis McAdams Park.
Taking the Red Car Bridge just south of Glendale Blvd. also puts you into the heart of Atwater Village.
If you’re looking for longer options for riding into Cargopalooza, continuing north on the bike path and heading into the central portion of Griffith Park brings a lot of choices too.

If you’re looking for a car-free supplement to getting to the ride, the Lincoln / Cypress light rail station is just south of the bike path and the Glendale Amtrak station sits just to the east.
Also, if anyone is hosting a feeder ride into the picnic, let us know so we can share.
We will also be giving out an entry
Don’t forget to RSVP on Facebook or Strava.
This should be a fantastic day no matter how long you stay as what better way to celebrate bikes than building community!
